The "Akeda" of Our Idolatry

This is probably no new idea… It seems that in the maturation of faith, one comes eventually to an “Akeda.” This is a time in spiritual life when our understanding of God and faith are bound and sacrificed (to God). This is a precious thing that is being killed—if it isn’t precious, it is a true sacrifice. For some, “Isaac” gets killed—for others, the True God, the God beyond the idolatry of our imaginings, comes in and redeems the moment. We come away either confused and bitter, or confused and divested of the limiting illusions of our prior faith understanding. Either way, a truer knowledge of God emerges, and it’s a matter of whether or not we can still perceive God after this “Akeda.”
